La vuelta del arte 2009
In the summer of 2009 EL-DRAC, in cooperation with the Casa del Dragón, will organize an art festival in and around the mountain village of Cervera del Maestre in the province of Castellon. In addition to the Center for Contemporary Art in the picturesque village in the Maestrazgo, several local partners in Cervera and the surrounding area will offer locations for young contemporary art.

Exhibitions
As part of the vuelta internationally performing artists from Europe will be exhibited in the Casa del Dragón. In the village itself further showrooms invite you to take an interesting tour. More exhibitions are shown at different places in the Maestrazgo.

29.08.09 - 10 p.m. - film - La Santantonada de Forcall - The Visitation of St. Anthony
Place of the action is the village Forcall in the Upper Maestrazgo - an impressive spectacle, the whole thing, with preparations over several days. It takes place on 17 January every year and presents itself as a production with pagan and Christian elements, in which the fire is the centre of attraction: on the one hand the blazing flames symbolize the rebirth of the sun, on the other hand, they are to be understood as a Christian cleansing ritual. Saint Anthony occurs, demons attack him, and the sinful temptation appears to him in the shape of a woman. Finally, the gigantic pyre on the central village square is lit. While it ablazes, brightly, the crowd of audience pushes through a tunnel-like opening underneath. In the film the local priest comments on the event and, at the conclusion of the festival - already deep in the cold January night - he consecrates the animals: horses and donkeys, dogs and cats, rabbits, hamsters and canaries.

When in the 1990s the coal mines were closed in Lota, the angry workers went to the capital city of Santiago de Chile, gathered in front of the presidential palace and put up fierce street battles with the police. They did not achieve much: some hundred U.S. dollars compensation and halfhearted retraining programs for themselves and their families. Since that time Lota has probably got the world's highest density of unemployed hairdressers in one spot. Now they are trying to escape poverty with industrial-cultural and tourist programmes. Former miners sell small coal sculptures on the market or hire out as guides in the 170-year-old mine El Diablo del Chiflón whose widely branched shafts lead up to 850 meters deep under the sea. The mine owes its name to the unique natural ventilation system: The breath of the devil provides constant fresh air supply in the narrow tunnels.
